Genetic Evaluation of Reproductive Losses
GeneCare provides complete genetic services for couples who experience reproductive losses. We recommend genetic evaluation of products of conception and parental bloods for couples who have experienced two or more unexplained reproductive losses (any combination of SAB, stillbirth and/or newborns with unexplained anomalies). Chromosome analyses of products of conception show 60% have a chromosome abnormality. Chromosome analysis of parents blood show 6% have a translocation or mosaicism in one of the parents. Those with normal chromosomes have a 1% increased risk of having a liveborn baby with a chromosome abnormality or open neural tube defect (ONTD) with each pregnancy. We recommend:
- Genetic counseling and evaluation
- Chromosome analysis of parental bloods. Analysis completed in an average of 6 days. STAT analysis available in 48 hours.
- Chromosome analysis of products of conception, cord, heart or fetal skin biopsy on occurrence of second or subsequent losses. We receive samples 7 days/week and complete analysis in an average of 8 days.
- Amniocentesis for chromosome and AFP testing for each future pregnancy for couples with or without normal chromosomes.
